Book Review On “The Poison Thread” By Laura Purcell @spookypurcell @penguinusa @penguinbooks

A thrilling Victorian gothic horror tale about a young seamstress who claims her needle and thread have the power to kill

Dorothea Truelove is young, wealthy, and beautiful. Ruth Butterham is young, poor, and awaiting trial for murder.

When Dorothea’s charitable work brings her to Oakgate Prison, she is delighted by the chance to explore her fascination with phrenology and test her hypothesis that the shape of a person’s skull can cast a light on their darkest crimes. But when she meets one of the prisoners, the teenaged seamstress Ruth, she is faced with another strange idea: that it is possible to kill with a needle and thread–because Ruth attributes her crimes to a supernatural power inherent in her stitches.

The story Ruth has to tell of her deadly creations–of bitterness and betrayal, of death and dresses–will shake Dorothea’s belief in rationality, and the power of redemption. Can Ruth be trusted? Is she mad, or a murderer? The Poison Thread is a spine-tingling, sinister read about the evil that lurks behind the facade of innocence.

Thank you Penguin Books for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange of an honest review. I am giving this book a 3.5 out of 5 Stars.

I read Purcell’s last book THE SILENT COMPANIONS and enjoyed it. The thing I like about her books, is that they are rich, and dark, and not like the popular Thrillers out on the market right now. This book was so detailed, dark, and fascinating.

I was gripped from the very first chapter, and really did have a hard time putting this one down. It read a lot differently for me than her last book. I was so intrigued about Dorothea and Ruth. What type of women were they really? If you guys haven’t read any of Purcell’s books I think this would be the one to start with. I really just enjoyed it.

If you are a fan of Gothic, Horror, and darkly suspenseful books, then this is the total book for you!!

This book is out June 18th. I have included the Goodreads link below.
