Ran McGhie’s world has been turned upside down. A young, lonely and frustrated writer, and suffering from mental-health problems, he discovers that his long-dead mother was related to one of Glasgow’s oldest merchant families. Not only that, but Ran has inherited Newton Hall, a vast mansion that belonged to his great-uncle, who appears to have been watching from afar as his estranged great-nephew has grown up. Entering his new-found home, he finds that Great-Uncle Fitzpatrick has turned it into a temple to the written word – the perfect place for poet Ran. But everything is not as it seems. As he explores the Hall’s endless corridors, Ran’s grasp on reality appears to be loosening. And then he comes across an ancient lift; and in that lift a mirror. And in the mirror … the reflection of a woman … A terrifying psychological thriller with more than a hint of the Gothic, House of Spines is a love letter to the power of books, and an exploration of how lust and betrayal can be deadly… (From Goodreads)
Oh Orenda Books, it’s good to be back, and reviewing your books! Thanks for sending this E-Book for me to read, in exchange of my honest review.
You knocked it out of the park again! I rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars.
Okay, so as you guys can tell from my previous reviews, I love Thrillers, Psychological, and Domestic are my favorites. BUT now, you can add Gothic Thrillers into that. This was my first, and my mind is absolutely blown how brilliant this book is, and how superbly it is written. The depth of the characters, the plot, and the content of this book are so creative, that you just get pulled in. I couldn’t stop with this one, I finished it in under 24 hours. Real life was put on pause for a bit.
I love spooky, I love dark, I love creepy, and ghosts? Yea I love them too! And what’s that you say? It’s a book, about the power and love of books? Can anything be more of a perfect read for me?? Honestly guys, pick up this gem, you won’t regret it, and you may even thank me for telling you to do it. And that cover!!!! All those topics wrapped up in one beautiful creeptastic package. I look forward to reading it again. It’s out to own on paperback April 1st, 2018
