Book Review of “Shatter Me” by Tahereh Mafi
Funny story, Christmas 2012 my husband bought me a copy of Shatter Me as a gift, and it sat on my bookcase for years. I kept seeing a Shatter Me book on Instagram, but it had a different cover, so I really did not think it was the same book I had. After seeing it in countless Instagram feeds, I decided that the whole series would be my May TBR.
I started Shatter Me last night. I was instantly in love. With the book, with the characters, with the writing style, and with the most amazing quotes I have seen in a book, in a very long time. Tahereh has this amazing talent, to take such a random quote, and make it incredible. I had page tabs all over this book. “Raindrops are my only reminder that clouds have a heartbeat. That I have one, too.” ( I mean, really? How amazing is just that one sentence?) “I am nothing but Novocaine I am numb, a world of nothing, all feeling and emotion gone forever. I am a whisper that never was.” ( I really just love her writing style)
This is a book that makes you feel, this is a book that you absolutely hate to put down. I love Juliette, and I love her with Adam. The two of them are going to make an incredible love story. I can already sense it. And I hope Warner gets what’s coming to him, and I cannot wait to read exactly how it happens. My regret is that it took me over 3 years to pick this book up.
I have a curse
I have a gift
I am a monster
I’m more than human
My touch is lethal
My touch is power
I am their weapon
I will fight back
Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.
The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior. (Pulled From Goodreads)
This book was simply amazing, and has given me a serious book hangover. Thank goodness I have the rest of this series sitting out my bookshelf, calling my name!
“He is a hot bath, a short breath, 5 days of summer pressed into 5 fingers writing stories on my body. I’m an embarrassing mess of nerves crashing into him, controlled by one current of electricity coursing through my core. His scent is assaulting my senses” Juliette- a.k.a. Tahereh Mafi
